a year+ in the life of my evolving, offbeat aesthetic as i navigate being
a mid-30s-femme-grown-up-emo-punk-single-mom-graduate-student-non-profit-employee-fashionista.

I keep seeing on the social medias* a reference to “hot girl summer” and I don’t completely know what that entails (because I am an Old)** but I’d like to submit to the committee a derivative, the “hot mom summer.”

Mostly because I’m 35 and not a girl, but have been a full grown ass adult woman for a couple of minutes now and don’t care to be referred to as anything less. I’ve earned my title of woman/mother and won’t be infantilized because I carry myself with a shred of confidence and conduct myself in accordance with my own morals, ideals, desires, and integrities.

Otherwise, I’m out here doing me, embracing the good in my life and generally ignoring everything that tells me to be smaller, quieter, and less noticeable in the world with two solid, elegant middle fingers in the air.

And I’m pretty sure that’s the gist of the concept.

*I study social media as a sociological phenomenon through a feminist framework I’ll call it what I want
**Listen when you’re constantly surrounded by undergrads and/or newbie models you’d feel old AF too.
