a year+ in the life of my evolving, offbeat aesthetic as i navigate being
a mid-30s-femme-grown-up-emo-punk-single-mom-graduate-student-non-profit-employee-fashionista.

Since the semester ended, I have been blown away by what feels like an inordinate amount of unscheduled time in my life. Without classes and homework and projects, my evenings have felt disproportionately open and unencumbered beyond my work schedule and parenting.

It’s a strange reality check, on how much I actually do have going on in my life, and why other people seem so blown away by all of the lives and responsibilities I juggle, that I usually just kind of shrug about.

So I’ve been sleeping a lot and finally watching things in my various queues.

Or course, I do have a paper to finish for one class and there’s the every present thesis, but this break has been so very much needed for some actual restorative space in my life.

And while next semester will be busy for it’s own reasons, it’s all almost during the day, leaving my evenings blissfully free from evening classes for the first time in almost two years.

Of course, I may have gone and committed myself to a short-term consistent evening engagement, on top of not just homework and my thesis but inevitably the duties of my internship, but that’s all in due time.

That all being said, it’s nice to get back to a routine after being sick and being able to do things like get back into cooking and enjoying the simplicity of some actual free time at home before I have to amp it up again and start the newest iteration of my grad student life.
