Why YES, I AM wearing a Santa-esque outfit for a post on this, the first night of Hanukkah because it is officially THE HOLIDAYS and also I wore this outfit for Black Friday at work because that’s also the day the downtown area (including my workplace) does their big holiday reveal and I have to find ways to find ironic, pun-like joy in my days especially in any kind of service-related, people-facing position.

And you know, a side effect of this modeling thing I do is that I end up with some potentially unexpected articles of clothing in my closet(s) due to shoots. A lot of the time, I have weird stuff anyway that I bust out for a themed shoot, but occasionally an idea comes up and I acquire items to get the look right. Maybe it’s the former actor in me, but I feel like especially for photography, getting the look just right is what can make or break an image (or keep it from ever potentially being considered akin to art) and it’s my job as the subject to do whatever’s within my power to make that magic happen.

Maybe that’s part of why I like modeling — it gives me a chance to get back to slipping into character, even if it’s just a more stylized or idealized version of myself.

All of that was to say I wouldn’t usually have a fire engine red chiffon maxi skirt, but I bought it for a shoot that never came to fruition (it was supposed to be underwater which … would have conquered a huge fear of mine, as this past spring/summer was kind of about facing those irrational fears while I still was strong enough to do so, even if sometimes it was a wee reckless) and I kept because it was inexpensive and hey, you never know when you might need it.

And maybe I needed the ridiculous joy of covertly cosplaying Santa Claus on Black Friday to keep me from descending into complete sardonic emotional oblivion. Even if it is kind of see through (because: cheap) and required fleece leggings underneath for warmth.

We all find ways to get through our days. This just so happens to be mine.

Speaking of, I’ll be spending this first holy night doing a local runway fashion show, so hopefully photos to come of that (I know, I haven’t posted the latest Instameet ones, either, but we’ll get there just let me finish this semester from hell) so if you’re feeling festive and want to see me all dolled up in public, head on over to my Facebook and/or Instagram pages for details.

May the miracle of light bless you and your loved ones this holiday season and all the year through. Happy Hanukkah!
